Heide Harrelson

Heide’s background started with ballet at the early age of five. Throughout her career, Heide has trained and performed with the American Dance Center, American Youth Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Cleveland/San Jose Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet and ended her ballet career with Kansas City Ballet.

After a few years’ hiatus, Heide came back to the dance world via choreographing and performing in the musical theatre genre. In 1997, she began choreographing for Music Theatre for Young People of KC. Her passion for working with kids and musicals began and has never faltered. To this day, Heide continues to choreograph for MTYP and has performed in and/or choreographed more than 30 musicals for: Theatre in the Park, City of Independence Theatre, Blue Springs Community Theatre, Olathe Community Theatre Association, Blue Valley North High School and the Jewish Community Center’s Shirley White Theatre.

In addition to ballet and musical theatre, Heide is an award-winning dancer and choreographer. She spent five years as a professional cheer-dancer; three years on the KC Comets Dance Team as well as two years on the KC Knights Dance Team. Heide has also had the great fortune to work with some of the best teachers/choreographers in the business: Todd Bolender, Una Kai, David Howard, George Verdak, Helgi Tomasson, Kent Stowell, Francia Russell, Elaine Bauer, Evelyn Cisneros, Dennis Nahat, Van Collins, Rhapsody, Chris Judd, Mia Michaels and many others whom she attributes her passion and continued inspiration to in the world of dance.
